At DUCK we have been making natural food for dogs since 1970. Right here in Belgium. In fact, we were the pioneers of deep-frozen dog food on the Belgian market. Now, 50 years later, we still stand for knowhow, trust and top quality. Thanks to our experience, we know the meat market inside out, which enables us to buy the best quality ingredients. At DUCK we are convinced that the best food for our dogs is the food that best suits their nature.
QUALITY CONTROL
To maintain our quality standards and further improve them, we at DUCK have chosen to join an interest group with 3 other Belgian raw food manufacturers. Under the supervision of the FASFC, we undertake, on a voluntary basis, to comply with a number of standards, including an audit handbook and a sampling plan for raw materials and finished products. We do all this to guarantee the quality of our products and, where possible, to improve them further.
In order to ensure that we maintain the desired high quality of our products, we implement a strict purchasing policy. Suppliers are selected after a process that includes thorough sampling of the raw materials delivered followed by consultation among ourselves.
Our protein suppliers are rather limited in number, specifically because we only use products for which we have quality assurance.
OUR INGREDIENTS
We source meat and organs, such as the heart, liver and kidneys, from European countries, from animals that have been slaughtered for human consumption. Immediately after slaughter the meat is cooled to -18 °C to ensure that it retains the vitamins and minerals. This also prevents bacteriological problems.
As soon as the deep-frozen meat and organs arrive in our production facility we check them for quality and temperature. These ingredients are kept at -18 °C in our huge deep-freeze too.
Our unique production process ensures that the ingredients remain frozen throughout preparation. We start the process by checking everything with a metal detector. Then, the frozen meat is ground in the meat grinder. After that we mix the meat, vegetables and grains together according to our preparation method. The only things we add are vitamins and minerals.
Once the ingredients have been mixed, the food is poured into forms, which immediately go into the quick freezer. Ten minutes later its temperature is back to -18 °C. Our natural dog food is now almost ready. The products are packed, first individually and then in boxes. Then they go to the metal detector again. If there is no problem there, analyses can be carried out. If the results of those are good, we can officially approve the food as fit for sale.
